Breakfast before the park
Baker's Bakery opens early every day. Hjem A.M. serves a shorter morning schedule and recommends reservations, so verify the current day and hours before relying on it.

Start early at Baker's or Hjem A.M., return for burgers or pizza, reserve a table at Skogen, and save Purple Pie for after its 11 a.m. opening.

Downtown Custer has burgers, pizza, sandwiches, and pub food along Mount Rushmore Road. Black Hills Burger & Pizza is closed Sunday and Monday on its current schedule.
Skogen Kitchen is a small Tuesday-through-Saturday dinner restaurant. Purple Pie Place is a late-morning-through-evening stop, not a breakfast option.

Four distinct Custer meals
Baker's Bakery & Cafe is the early, no-reservation choice for coffee, pastries, and a full breakfast. Hjem A.M. has a shorter Wednesday-through-Sunday schedule and a more deliberate sit-down meal; its own site recommends reservations.
Black Hills Burger & Pizza Co. is the focused downtown choice for its namesake menu and currently closes Sunday and Monday. Buglin' Bull has a broader sports-bar menu that is easier for a group with different appetites.
Skogen Kitchen is the reservation dinner: a compact downtown room, a changing chef-led menu, and service Tuesday through Saturday. It is a different evening from the town's burger, pizza, and pub-food stops.
State Game Lodge Dining Room keeps the meal near Wildlife Loop Road and the park's eastern side. It avoids the return to town; a downtown dinner instead provides several restaurants within a few blocks. Park dining is seasonal.
Where to eat
Check current hours, especially outside summer. Hjem A.M. and Baker's cover breakfast; downtown counters suit lunch; Skogen is a small dinner reservation; Purple Pie opens at 11 a.m., not at breakfast time.
